Where the word REALTORS® is used in this Code and Preamble, it shall be deemed to include REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®s.
While the Code of Ethics established obligations that may be higher than those mandated by law, in any instance where the Code of Ethics and the law conflict, the obligations of the law must take precedence.
There are a number of options to help resolve any disputes:
You can reach out to your local association
If you have already spoken directly with the agent and attempted to resolve the issue, and you have also involved your Managing Broker (if applicable), who has then reached out to the agent and/or their Managing Broker in an effort to resolve the matter, you may request an Ethics Complaint Packet from CCAR's CEO.
You can go directly to Illinois REALTORS®
Complaints may be submitted anonymously by REALTORS® or consumers for review. If the complaint meets the programs requirements, a Citation Panel reviews the matter and may issue a citation and fine if a violation is found. Respondents may either accept the citation or request a formal hearing before an Ethics Hearing Panel.
Illinois REALTORS® Ombudsman Program
Illinois REALTORS® offers an Ombudsman Program to help consumers and REALTORS® resolve questions and minor disputes related to real estate transactions.
Requests are assigned to specially trained Ombudsmen who work to improve communication, clear up misunderstandings, and help reach a resolution. While the program does not provide legal advice, it can offer guidance, resources, and assistance in resolving concerns before they escalate.
Fair housing supports both our communities and the real estate profession by promoting equal opportunity in housing. Explore resources designed to help REALTORS® strengthen their understanding of fair housing laws, follow best practices, and help prevent discrimination in the communities they serve.
Fairhaven 2.0
Fairhaven is a free online simulation program from NAR designed to help REALTORS® strengthen their understanding of fair housing laws and best practices. Participants work through real-world inspired scenarios while navigating four timed real estate transactions, receiving personalized feedback along the way to help apply fair housing principles in everyday client interactions.
